to give their lives to his service.

The Magic Hour by James Crowley
Paperback
257 pages
Reading level: grades 6 and up

Though written to interest youth, this simple tale about death and the afterlife brings great comfort to all. If you attended the "Ten Year" celebration of Embraced, you may have met the author. I highly recommend this book for all age groups. - Betty J. Eadie

Nine-year-old Eddie McCourt has a special birthday wish this year -- to see his twin brother, Brian, who fell from their tree house and passed away just three weeks earlier. Miraculously, the bonds of communication between these two little boys have not been broken. Eddie knows that Brian is still alive and hopes to spend a "magic hour" with him on their birthday this coming Saturday night. That's when daylight savings time will be over for the season. An hour after midnight, the clock will strike "one." But an hour later, the clock will strike "one" again. If these 60 minutes, suspended in time, can serve as a bridge between two worlds, that hour will prove to be the most precious of Eddie's young life.

The Magic Hour by James Crowley is a thrilling, otherworldly adventure. As Eddie seeks to celebrate his birthday with his brother, he gains an understanding of life so profound that not only his life but the lives of all around him will be changed forever.

Lisa, 36, from Montreal says, "The way this story presents death and the afterlife through the eyes of a child is the most innocent and natural I've ever encountered. I felt so reassured to know that people on the other side are not only concerned about me but take a major interest in my life."

Lee, 18, Albuquerque: "I've never been overcome with such emotion when reading a book. It brought me to understand the true worth of life."

Lisa, 45, Honolulu: "I couldn't put it down! I read through the night and finished at 5:00 am!"

Graydon, 17, Coronado: "Everything today for kids is about anger and violence. This story teaches kids how to be kind. It also teaches that this world and the next are closer than we think. An awesome book!"

Beverly, 53, Atlanta: "A delightful read that left me with many profound truths to ponder on many levels. The story stays with you long after you've finished reading."
