...I knew that God had placed them there as warring angels...who believed in God and loved him enough
to give their lives to his service.

Like a Moth to the Flame
by Donna Fairbanks

God may be mindful of sparrows, but how does he feel about moths? I would like to think that God loves all his creations, because lately I’ve been feeling a lot like a moth. Attending the Sacramento convention was more than just a choice for me—it was a compulsion. I felt an indescribable energy pulling me there. With mesmerized fascination, I gave up all resistance and allowed myself to be drawn to the convention like a moth is drawn to the flame.

And I’m so glad I did.

Meeting Betty for the first time…well…I blubbered like a baby. I couldn’t even speak. I immediately felt sorry for Betty, having to put up with my incoherent whimperings. But what did she do? She hugged me! And it wasn’t one of those quick, “It’s okay, honey” kind of hugs. It was a deep, soul-to-soul hug, which seemed to last forever. My goodness…Betty should really apply for some sort of patent for those hugs! She’d be truly wealthy! (Sorry, Betty, I know that wealth holds no appeal for you.)

This first-time meeting with Betty took place backstage before the big Friday evening event. I’d been selected to share with the audience, for a few minutes, my personal experience with Embraced by the Light. I was thrilled to the core—what an incredible honor! And so I told my story, as briefly as I could. Basically, Embraced by the Light changed my life. Yes, I know…big surprise. This book is changing the world, so what’s the big deal about my story? Well, this book helped bring to an end over 20 years of severe depression. For me, that was a super huge, ultra gigantic deal.

I learned that it’s all about light…the kind of light that is powerful enough to penetrate the deepest and darkest depression. It’s divine light—the light of God’s love—and Embraced by the Light delivered this light to me. I could go on and on about other things I learned through my many years of suffering from depression, including many instances of divine intervention, but it would only be reiterating this one point:

It’s all about light.

And so, with all the energy of my heart, and with the loudest voice I can muster, I would like to invite all my fellow moths from around the world to go towards the flame of God’s love. Don’t resist. Allow yourself to be drawn to this light. I promise you that you won’t get burned. God’s love is gentle, healing, joyous, and glorious. And he never closes the door on anyone who is drawn to him.

Still hesitating? I’ll let you in on a little secret. I believe God may have a special soft spot for moths.
