...I knew that God had placed them there as warring angels...who believed in God and loved him enough to give their lives to his service. -- The Awakening Heart by Betty J. Eadie, p. 88 |

In response to Tena and Carole:
I think Carole said something about prayer being the solution. Yes, it is! Here're some things I've learned (mostly from Ben) about energy draining, so perhaps you can get an idea of what's going on so you can figure out what you want to do.
You remember in physics where they talked about energy and potential energy and so on? How higher, greater energy when connected to a place of lower, reduced energy will tend to flow down into the depleted vessel? Well, spiritual energy is like that too. You can pretty much prove it to yourself: If you touch a person who is unhappy or weak from disease or illness, you will feel for yourself how your energy flows into them. Remember also the story of the woman who touched Jesus' robe, and Jesus FELT the energy flow out of Himself?
So picture this: You are a vessel of energy. An emotionally needy person has less energy than you, so if you (or they) connect the two, your energy flows into them. You can stop this flow by breaking off mental/spiritual/physical/etc., contact.
Now picture God. THE Source of Energy. Infinite, unlimited. To refill our own energy, we connect to God by blessing God, loving God, thanking God. Ever notice how, when you pray with great joy, you feel filled with Light? And the saints were almost always connected to God -- so they were brimming over with Light, and always happy to give it away. When they gave it away, it was always replaced immediately, creating a sort of "blessing current," so that they became a flowing RIVER of living water. (How's that for a Biblical phrase?)
So you can see how various blessings work. People send a gift of goodwill energy (bit of light) to others, then refill from God. Or, they can ask God to send an even greater energy blessing. One way of doing this is to get close and connected to God, then to bless your friend, and mentally and spiritually connect God to your friend -- or act as the conduit yourself. Depends on the person, the situation, how you are feeling, and so on. Peace Pilgrim's way was by mentally lifting people up into the Light until she felt they were in God's hands. See -- she was always in communion with God and in constant prayer, and then she would lift the other person till she felt that person was connected to God's Light.
When praying for a deeply troubled person whom you don't feel you want to connect to at the time, I think it's best to just ask God to bless them without connecting to them. That's OK. There are some deeply troubled people I don't like thinking about, so I just hand them over to God while wearing a full-blown spiritual "protective biohazard suit" (LOL).
But other times, I think the "gift is doubled in impact" (sorry; been reading too many charity money requests, lol) when you join God in the act of blessing someone and praying for them. (Oh, and I don't think you need to tell them you blessed them or prayed for them, lol.)
We should always strive to be as connected to God as we can be. Then give away the love. Give so that we can receive, give, receive, give, receive, until we become living part of the flowing streams of great love that come from God.
Amen, amen - I love it!
