MESSAGE FROM PLANNING COMMITTEE

The 2nd Annual WAVES Convention is sure to be an exciting and memorable event for all who attend! This very special weekend will include formal and informal gatherings to meet and hear from WAVES founder, Betty J. Eadie. There will be opportunities to socialize, meet new friends, and share our love and experiences as WAVES volunteers. It's important to make your event ticket purchases and hotel reservations early. And of course the sooner you book your flight, the lower the fares.

TRANSPORTATION

Airport
The Sacramento airport is relatively small but is newly remodeled and has every modern convenience. It is located about 15 minutes north of downtown Sacramento, about 20 minutes northwest of our hotel. (Webman Stan says: On your drive in and out, notice the beautiful airport landscaping, featuring groves of many varieties of trees.) More airport information...

Ground Transportation
Radisson Sacramento does not provide airport shuttle service. If you do not plan to rent a car, you can travel to and from the hotel by taking the Blue Van Supershuttle. The cost is $15 per person, each way (less expensive than a taxi). Supershuttle vans are available 24/7 and are parked just outside baggage claim doors. Look for Blue Van desks in the baggage claim area. (The terminals are small, you'll have no trouble spotting the desks.) If you wish to arrange Supershuttle service ahead of time, click Supershuttle.

WEATHER & ATTRACTIONS

(Thanks to WAVE, Rita, for her research.)

Sacramento’s Weather
Sacramento is warm and comfortable in July. The temperature averages in the low to mid 90s, but it is a comfortable, ‘dry heat’ lacking the humidity that can be found in many other parts of the United States during the summer.

Sacramento’s History
Gold was discovered in 1848 just thirty miles east of Sacramento, in Coloma. This was the event that set off the "Gold Rush of 1849" and the largest human migration in history. Coloma and the gold-discovery site is a beautiful 50-minute drive into the Sierra foothills and well worth a visit if you love history.

You can read more about "Gold Rush" history at the following links:

California became a state in 1850 and Sacramento became the state capitol in 1854. The California State capitol and grounds are a beautiful place to visit. You might even get a glimpse of the famous "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger. Visit the capitol online at:

Sightseeing in and around Sacramento
The scenic American and Sacramento Rivers intersect in downtown Sacramento. The rivers have great recreational areas for picnicking, boating, fishing and tubing. There are still people who try their luck at panning for gold since the American River is where gold was first discovered. Here are some interesting links:

You can visit the 28-acre state historic park called "Old Sacramento" to experience a bit of nostalgia, learn about early Sacramento history, and wander through restored vintage streets and shops. Here's a link about Old Sacramento:

Day-Trips or Longer
Northwest of Sacramento is wine country and the beautiful Napa/Sonoma valley, famous for world-class wineries, hotels, inns, spas, restaurants, parks, camping, hot-air balloon tours. Here's more:

West is San Francisco, "City By the Bay," and the incomparable California coastline. For a special treat, take a day or two and drive south from San Francisco along Highway 1 through Santa Cruz, Carmel and Monterey.

East is Lake Tahoe with its dramatic setting high in the Sierra's, "California's Alps."

Head southeast of Sacramento to Yosemite National Park, busy in summer months, but always gorgeous and inspiring.
