Healing the World, One Person at a Time:
Betty J. Eadie's Revolutionary Prescription
for the New Millennium
Betty
J. Eadie's Embraced By The Lightthe
14th best-selling book of the 1990swas only the beginning of a unique
story that continues to unfold. As profound and extraordinary as Ms. Eadie's
near-death experience was, it proved to be merely a starting point for
the author, whose ambitious mission is to help heal a world plagued with
increasingly serious problems. "Many wonderful and exciting things are
falling into place for the new millennium," the noted inspirational speaker
explains. "But our world has become too dysfunctional, and if we don't
make some fundamental changes, the millennium's promise is never going
to be realized." Eadie's newest book, The
Ripple Effect, has just been published by her own company, Onjinjinkta
Publishing, which she founded last year. Signaling a new literary direction
for the author, The Ripple Effect moves beyond the account of Eadie's
own experience to frame a timely and potentially controversial prescription
for individual and collective healing in the new millennium. In a starred
review, Publishers Weekly calls it "remarkable and compelling."
With
combined sales of more than 8 million copies of Embraced by the Light
and The Awakening Heart, Ms. Eadie has literally millions of fans
who eagerly follow each media appearance. As she tours the country, sharing
her message of the life-changing power of unconditional love, Eadie draws
thousands of people each year to her speaking engagements and book signings.
She also receives thousands of letters, resulting in a mailing list of
more than 20,000 people in 81 countries around the world. In 1999, more
than 2 million people visited her Web site. Very few authors have had
such an impact on so many people, and even fewer have the spiritual magnetism
that inspires and sustains such an abiding interest on the part of her
readers.
On
the need for individual and collective healing, Eadie explains, "People
are suffering in so many ways, and our families are more at risk than
ever before. We have to turn that around—and we have to do it now." The
former therapist calls for a renewed sense of personal responsibility
coupled with faith, explaining, "During my experience, I was taught about
the universal laws that govern our world. One of them is the law of Cause
and Effect: For every action there is a reaction, for every choice there
is a positive or negative consequence. That's why we have so many problems
in our personal lives and in our world. We are experiencing the consequences
of what we created. The way we can change that is to make more responsible
choices, and honor the partnership we have with the Creator as stewards
of our own lives and the life of the planet."
"We
can change the world," Eadie continues. "But it became dysfunctional one
person at a time, and we have to heal it one person at a time. Another
important universal law I was taught during my experience is called the
"Ripple Effect." I was shown that our thoughts, words, and deeds affect
far more people than we know. Our actions ripple out to the people we
touch, and then ripple out through them to even more people. Violence,
abuse, anger, and despair send out powerful negative ripples that help
create new violence, abuse, anger, and despair in others. Likewise, love,
hope, kindness, and respect do the same. So when one person finds the
strength and courage to overcome challenges and harvest that which is
best within him, countless others are affected positively, too. That is
a universal law."
As
she tours the country, sharing her prescription for healing the world,
Eadie offers pointed and practical observations on a wide range of personal
and social issues, such as:
- Violence
in Our Schools: "Every day, more and more children are turning to
violence in an attempt to solve their problems: they kill classmates,
neighbors, and members of their own families. I was shown that the problems
our children face are made worse by the disintegration of the family.
Until we become more responsible, loving and interested in our children,
the problem will only get worse."
- Assisted
Suicide: "To assist in a suicide is to place one's own mercy above
the mercy of God. It makes God an observer rather than a participant.
Euthanasia is a medical term giving license to kill, and its ripple
effects are far-ranging, affecting many in negative ways."
- The
Epidemic of Abuse: "Abuse tends to run in families. In my near-death
experience I was shown that some spirits are sent to these families
as children to break the cycle of abuse, to sacrifice what they might
have known in their childhood in order to prevent future generations
from doing the same thing."
- Life
Before Birth:
"The idea that our spirits once lived with God before coming to earth
surprises many people. The truth is that God created our spirits long
before we were born on earth."
- Coping
with Suffering: "In heaven, when we were choosing what our earthly
lives would be like, we often chose adversity and suffering because
we knew they would bring the most profound growth."
- Searching
for Meaning:
"Each one of us made plans with God and set goals for our lives here.
I saw this clearly and repeatedly during my experience. Each of us came
to earth on a personal mission of spiritual growth. To grow, we need
to learn the value and price of love, as well as patience, humility,
self-discipline, and other virtues."
- Losing
a Loved One:
"Our bonds with loved ones continue after death as they began long before
birth. The love between us is eternal and does not cease simply because
we cannot see the departed. Sometimes, God allows the departed to remain
nearby for a time to help us cope with their loss. On occasion, these
precious spirits may speak words to help us prepare for the future,
or even touch us physically."
Onjinjinkta Publishing was founded in 1998 by Betty J. Eadie, author of
the acclaimed bestsellers Embraced by the Light, The Awakening
Heart, and The Ripple Effect. The company takes its name from
Betty's Native American name, which means "Rose in Bloom." Its mission
is to bring books of lasting value to the reading public.
