Best-selling Author of
EMBRACED BY THE LIGHT
Stuns Publishing Establishment
by Going Her Own Way
If
given a choice between taking a 7-figure advance or digging into their
own pockets to start a publishing house from scratch, most best-selling
authors would just take the money. But then most authors aren't Betty
J. Eadie. As reported in The New York Times and Publishers Weekly,
the woman whose first two books sold a combined 8 million copies and took
national bestseller lists by storm stunned the publishing world by starting
her own publishing company rather than sell future books to a major New
York house.
The
Seattle-based Onjinjinkta Publishing is the latest venture of an author
who has appropriately been dubbed a woman of "silk and steel," "leather
and lace," and "grit and grace." Reminiscent of another determined and
courageous female messenger, Joan of Arc, Eadie is a woman whose gender
and petite physical stature belie her strength and power of spirit, and
who refuses to let the message she carries die at the hands of disbelievers.
Onjinjinkta
Publishing not only gives Eadie control over her own books, but it also
allows her to help rectify a serious problem in publishing. "The world
desperately needs as many uplifting books as possible—the daily news makes
that painfully clear," Eadie explains. "But those books are having trouble
finding a publisher because most of the big New York publishing houses
won't take a chance on unproven authors. The stakes are too high to leave
the fate of spiritual books in the hands of companies that only care about
the bottom line." So Eadie is putting her own money and reputation on
the line to publish books other publishers won't.
"We
are on a mission, and that mission gives us the freedom to publish from
the heart and not from the pocketbook," Eadie elaborates. "There are so
many people struggling—the teenager who is confused or angry or even suicidal;
the grandmother who is trying to carry on after losing her husband of
40 years; the family that is being torn apart by violence, addiction,
or any number of problems. Now, more than ever, people need answers to
help them cope with their daily lives. Our goal is to make a positive
difference by publishing books that will not only help them understand
who they are and why they are here, but will share with them in practical
and loving ways how to overcome life's challenges and harvest the treasures
hidden within themselves. We will be successful whether we sell 10,000
books or 10 million, because every time one person finds help, it ripples
out to affect countless others as well. Is there profit in that? Maybe
not the kind of profit the big publishers want, but it's exactly what
the world needs."
Ms.
Eadie's instincts are already proving correct. During a special pre-release
to selected markets, Onjinjinkta Publishing's first three books have already
demonstrated an ability to strike a deep chord with the book-buying public,
a phenomenon that will only gather steam with their nationwide release
in early 2000. The company's inaugural title is Eadie's eagerly anticipated
new book, The Ripple Effect.
After sharing her remarkable NDE in the publishing sensations Embraced
By The Light and The
Awakening Heart, the former therapist explores new—and sometimes
controversial—territory in The Ripple Effect, answering the most
often asked questions from readers and teaching them how to incorporate
life-changing truths into their own lives.
The
Soul's Remembrance, Onjinjinkta's second book, promises to be
the type of "sleeper" that most publishers wish they had bought. The author,
Roy Mills, gives a profound yet folksy new
perspective on the meaning of life by sharing his extraordinary pre-birth
memories of heaven. It is an unprecedented book that will raise some eyebrows
and touch many hearts. The Soul's Remembrance will be followed
by The Adventures of Caterpillar
Jones, by J. J. Brothers. A charming
children's book about facing life (and death) without fear, Caterpillar
Jones already has booksellers buzzing in the authors' home state of Ohio.
And in April, Onjinjinkta will publish Jack & Jill, Why They Kill,
an important new book on one of the most pressing and painful issues confronting
America: kids killing kids. The author, Dr. James Shaw, is the leading
authority in the field, and has personally interviewed more than 100 children
convicted of killing other children. Jack & Jill not only exposes the
truth behind these senseless tragedies but offers parents and teachers
a desperately needed solution to the shocking epidemic of violence in
our schools.
